After 22 years of dedication to Hamilton Elementary and hundreds of Hawkeye students, Mrs. Stacy Smith is set to step away from her role a media clerk.
"Both of my children have had children, so I'm going to stay home and watch the grandbabies," Smith smiled.
However, there was certainly a bittersweet smile as she talked about her final full day on the job on Friday, March 1.
"This place has become family, I love the students, the teachers, the families, everybody that works in this building," she added. "There is some sadness because I love my mornings when students get dropped off and I get to welcome them into the school."
On March 1, it was the students, parents, and staff providing the big smiles to Smith during school drop-off as they held a surprise celebration for her. Vehicles pulled up throughout the morning showing their appreciation for all of her dedication to their student(s), dropping off flowers, cards, hugs, and high fives.
"I'll definitely miss this," she added. "Over the past 22 years, this library has become my own little home. I've put in a lot of time and effort to make sure every book is a book that the children want to read."
Mrs. Smith has also served on the board for the Salem Township Library for a number of years. Thank you for all of the years of tremendous work and support of our students and community, Mrs. Smith. You will be missed!
