Joe Knapp

School Resource Officer, Deputy Joe Knapp made a trip to Bentheim Elementary on Friday morning to do his annual teaching about the American Flag to all fourth grade students.

Knapp ensured the students know how to properly raise, lower, and fold the American Flag each and every day as well as the importance of the Stars and Stripes.

"Teaching students the importance and significance of the American Flag is a passion of mine," Knapp explained. "So many have fought, and died protecting what OUR Flag represents. As a Veteran of the United States Air Force, I feel that it is so important to teach kids to have respect for our Flag, what it stands for, and for those that have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms. The American Flag is a visual reminder for all of us that we live in the land of the free, because of the brave."

The students ended the morning by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with Deputy Knapp. His last day in our district before retirement will be Thursday, August 29.
