On Monday, December 9, Hamilton Community Schools proudly hosted the annual 5th Grade DIG IN! Day, a hands-on event introducing students to the world of skilled trades. Held at Cultivate Church, located across from Hamilton Middle School, the day gave students an opportunity to explore various careers such as plumbing, electrical work, marketing, estimating, roofing, and HVAC.

“We had several different companies here doing different activities for differing skilled trades. Plumbing, electrical, marketing, estimating—all of the things that go into the construction world,” said Ashley Meyer, Hamilton Community Schools Work-Based Learning coordinator.

Local professionals from companies across West Michigan partnered with the district to make this eye-opening event possible. Carlton Aukeman of DHE Plumbing & Mechanical shared, “I absolutely love what Hamilton is doing. It’s a whole different experience getting to show these kids the hands-on aspect of everything and being able to introduce them to the trades in this way."

DIG IN! Day exemplifies Hamilton Community Schools’ commitment to career exploration and Work-Based Learning, ensuring students gain valuable exposure to careers that play vital roles in our community.

A special thank-you to Cultivate Church for hosting and to all the companies and business professionals who made this day a success. Together, we are inspiring the next generation of skilled trades professionals.
