Reproductive Health

The composition of the Hamilton Community Schools' Sex Education Advisory Board (SEAB) is defined by applicable State Law. The twelve-person volunteer board includes representatives from the following groups: parents of children in the district, HCS staff/educators, healthcare professionals, local clergy, Board of Education, and high school students. The committee meets to review current curriculum materials and make recommendations to the HCS Board of Education regarding the reproductive health and sex education/health curriculum.

The SEAB functions in accordance with Michigan legal guidelines and works to follow best practices in health education while maintaining compliance with state laws and local community priorities.

SEAB 2-Year Report - November 2023

***According to Michigan law, you have the right to review the materials and curriculum content to be used in the reproductive health education unit, as well as for the HIV/AIDS unit.  As such, we will be hosting a parent night in order to provide information about how to talk to your kids about puberty and reproductive health, and to give you the opportunity to review the curriculum used (see attached letter).  In addition, we also have the materials available at school for you to review.  If you wish to review the materials, please contact the building principal to arrange a time for that.  You also have the right to observe instruction in your child’s classroom.

If you wish to do this, please call your child’s teacher or the principal to make arrangements.
